The HER(R)BERGSKIRCHEN are sacred spaces. We expect our guests to act accordingly and treat the spaces respectfully at all times. Most of the HER(R)BERGSKIRCHEN are open to visitors and therefore remain as public spaces during the day. For this reason, overnight stays are usually only possible from 6:00 p.m. until 9 a.m. the following day. If you would like to stay longer than one day in a HER(R)BERGSKIRCHE, you may consult with the local hosts and arrange to leave your belongings in a secure location during the day.
Further Information
Depending on the individual location, the HER(R)BERGSKIRCHEN may offer overnight accommodation for one to five guests. The features, although simple, are high in quality. Each of the sleeping quarters are individually designed in accordance with the specific spatial and atmospheric conditions on site. Sanitary facilities are accessible either in the church itself or in the immediate vicinity of the respective HER(R)BERGSKIRCHE. At most of the locations, a kitchen equipped with essentials is also available for use. Detailed information about the facilitates at each of the respective HER(R)BERGSKIRCHEN and their locations can be found on the booking platform.
While there is no WLAN inside the HER(R)BERGSKIRCHEN themselves, most locations have WLAN available for use in the adjacent Parish houses. Detailed information about the facilities at each of the respective HER(R)BERGSKIRCHEN and their locations can be found on the booking platform.
In order to allow for as many guests as possible to enjoy these unique overnight experiences during the summer months, each guest is limited to a maximum of three consecutive nights.
Families with children are also welcome to spend the night at the HER(R)BERGSKIRCHEN. The HER(R)BERGSKIRCHEN do not provide cribs, but you are welcome to bring your own.
The hourly chime of the clock towers will be deactivated during the hours of your overnight stay.
You can park your car in the immediate vicinity of the churches. Most of the locations also offer bicycle parking in the annexes of the HER(R)BERGSKIRCHEN. Please consult with the local hosts for more details.
If you want to bring your dog and/or other pets, please discuss the details in advance with the local hosts.
The Michaeliskirche in Neustadt am Rennsteig will be made fully accessible, including the sanitary facilities, starting in the summer of 2021. Unfortunately, the other HER(R)BERGSKIRCHEN have not yet been specifically designed for accessibility. However, upon request and after prior consultation with the hosts, the HER(R)BERGSKIRCHEN will try to enable and facilitate accessibility for guests whenever possible.
The work carried out by the supervisors on site is done so on a voluntary basis. The income from accommodation fees primarily cover the running costs and maintenance of the HER(R)BERGSKIRCHEN facilities. In the case of any monetary surplus, events associated with the HER(R)BERGSKIRCHEN are given financial support. The visitor’s tax, which amounts to 2.00 Euros per person per night, is included in the price of the overnight stay and is given to the local municipality. The Service fees include the fees of the booking platform.
An overnight stay in one of the Her(R)bersgkirchen is currently only possible in the summer months because there is no heating in most of the churches and it is too cold in the winter.
